Inmitten der historischen Freistädter Altstadt findet sich John Owens Galerie. Das Haus aus dem Jahr 1460, der Türrahmen aus Granitstein und die massive Holzdecke lassen die Geschichte(n) dieses Ortes erahnen.
Meister des Lichts wird John Owen gerne genannt – und schaut man sich in der Galerie ein bisschen um, entdeckt man rasch, weshalb. Seit 2013 füllt er mit seinen unverkennbaren Aquarellbildern das Altstadthaus mit Licht – und mit ein wenig Magie.
Heute finden sich an die 100 Original Malereien an den Wänden der Galerie, umrahmt von einzigartigen Möbelstücken und Antiquitäten. Es ist ein ganz besonderes Ambiente, das die Besucher:innen der Galerie erwartet. Und wer tief in die Ruhe und Kraft der Bilder eintauchen möchte, nimmt gern auf einem der antiken Fauteuils Platz.
Bringt man ein wenig Zeit mit, lässt es sich vortrefflich mit dem Künstler selbst über Licht, Reflexionen, über die Wirklichkeit und die Illusion von Wirklichkeit reden.
Gallery
The John Owen Gallery is located in the centre of Freistadt’s historic old town. The house from 1460, the door frame hewn from granite and the solid beamed wooden ceiling give an idea of the history of this special place.
John Owen is often called the Master of Light - and if you look around the gallery a little, you'll quickly discover why. Since 2013, he has been filling the old town house with light - and a little magic - with his unmistakable watercolor paintings.
Today around 100 original paintings grace the walls and portfolio stands of the gallery, framed by unique pieces of furniture and English antiques. A very special atmosphere awaits visitors to the gallery. And if you want to really immerse yourself in the peace and power of the images, you are welcome to take a seat and relax in one of the cosy armchairs.
Take your time, don’t rush, then you’ll have a chance to talk to the artist himself about light, reflections, authenticity and the illusion of reality.
